Preamble of Indian Constitution

Preamble of Indian Constitution

Preamble actually means introductory statement for anything. Preamble of Indian Constitution is the introduction on which the entire constitution is based. Preamble of Indian Constitution was adopted on 26th November 1949 by the constituent assembly and was actually implemented on the republic day which is 26th January 1950. The original page of the Preamble and constitution of India was designed by painter Beohar Rammanohar Sinha . It was decided that it would be kept original as it and that is the reason why Constitution of India has the sign of the Beohar Rammanohar Sinha.  After the 42nd amendment in Indian Constitution in 1976, it was declared that India is a Sovereign socialist secular democratic republic.

The exact text of the Preamble is as follows:

WE, THE PEOPLE OF INDIA, having solemnly resolved to constitute India into a SOVEREIGN SOCIALIST SECULAR DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC and to secure to all its citizens:JUSTICE, social , economic and political;

LIBERTY of thought , expression, belief, faith and worship;

EQUALITY of status and of opportunity; and to promote among them all
FRATERNITY assuring the dignity of the individual and the unity and integrity of the Nation;

IN OUR CONSTITUENT ASSEMBLY this twenty-sixth day of November, 1949, do HEREBY ADOPT, ENACT AND GIVE TO OURSELVES THIS CONSTITUTION.

The first three words which says ‘We the people’ states that giving the democratic power to the people of the country. The word Sovereign means that the country is self sufficient and is not dependent on foreign powers and its government is directly elected by the people. The meaning of republic is that the government is elected by the people and head of the country is a representative by the people and not a king or a monarch. Socialist talks about that the country works for social welfare and where both public and private sector are given equal opportunities.  Secular means that India respects all religions and all religions should co-exist peacefully. To lay the constitution is one thing and to implement it as it is for the past so many years is what makes it the largest democracy and a great Country.
